Midshipmen study abroad in China
9/4/2010:
Two Naval Academy midshipmen spent the spring semester studying in
Beijing, China, as part of a program managed by the U.S.
organization CET Academic Programs. Midshipmen 1st Class
Alex Eagan and Brian Yaptinchay lived and traveled in
China for five months, studying the language and culture of the
Chinese people. Midn. Eagan's parents are WISNAPA members
David Eagan and Nancy Jarvis,
Madison.

Baltimore kicks off inaugural Navy Week celebration
9/1/2010: Residents of a city steeped
in naval history began a week of long series of events Aug. 28
designed to showcase the Navy to residents of the cultural
center of the state of Maryland. Baltimore Navy Week 2010, one
of 20 Navy Weeks held across America this year, began with
crewmembers of the Boston-based USS Constitution long gun
demonstration team simulated the firing of one of the ship's
6,000 pound guns.

Honor coins presented to Class of 2014

Members of the Class of 1964 presented the Class of 2014 with "Honor
Coins" during a special presentation at Alumni
Hall on August 9.

Academy's Midshipmen Activities
Center opens
8/30/2010:
The Naval Academy's new Midshipmen Activities Center opened
recently after a year of planning and construction, providing
the Brigade of Midshipmen with some similar to a civilian
university's
student union.

Superintendent welcomes back brigade
8/29/2010:
Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Adm. Michael Miller and Commandant of
Midshipmen Capt. Robert E. Clark II welcomed the brigade back to
a new school year during a
superintendent's call at Alumni Hall Aug. 23. Only days after
Plebe Parents' Weekend, the Brigade of Midshipmen began
returning to the Yard for Reform, signaling the start of the
fall semester. For the plebes, it was their first encounter with
the body of upperclass midshipmen who will be largely
responsible for their training throughout the year.

Kings Point has new superintendent
8/28/2010: U.S. Transportation
Secretary Ray LaHood has announced that Rear Admiral Philip H.
Greene, Jr. will become the new superintendent of the U.S.
Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.

Academy places in engineering competition
8/27/2010:
A team of four midshipmen from the U.S. Naval Academy ranked 10th after
competing with colleges and universities from all over the
nation at the 18th annual Intelligence Ground Vehicle
Competition (IGVC) held in June at Oakland University in
Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Military urged to boost bay cleanup efforts
8/26/2010: State, federal and military
officials huddled at the Naval Academy in Annapolis on Wednesday
to see how the Pentagon - one of the largest landowners in the
Chesapeake Bay watershed - might do more on the region's
sprawling bases to control pollution and restore the troubled
estuary. But they steered clear - for now - from talking about
what it would cost and how a war-strapped Defense Department
might pay for it.
