Mids eager for
this shot
2/16/2010:
Well along in rehearsal at the Naval
Academy's
Mahan Hall, the cast of
Annie Get Your Gun
seemed ideally suited to American composer Irving
Berlin's musical story of American heroine Annie Oakley. At a
recent rehearsal, cast members leaped from their seats onto the
stage when the music director summoned them for the opening
number,
There's no business like Show Business.
Berlin would have been pleased by these enthusiastic midshipmen
- few of whom were even born at the time of his death.

Annapolis has a
significant place in black history
2/21/2010:
Annapolis, with its narrow, cobbled streets overlooking the water, its
cute boutiques and taverns, and its historic state Capital and
impressive U.S. Naval Academy, provides for a great Washington
escape, even in the bleakness of winter. But during Black
History Month, Annapolis also provides a great African American
history lesson.

Naval Academy
takes air at physical readiness
2/23/2010:
Don't call is "gym
class" because you won't find dodge ball in this curriculum. As
one-third of the U.S. Naval Academy's core mission "to
develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically," physical
education is not something that's taken lightly. For these
midshipmen, gone are their high school days where "running the
mile"
was one of the most physically demanding activities. The
Academy's physical education program is far more strenuous and requires a better
understanding of the importance of lifelong physical fitness.
The focus has evolved into truly developing their physical
fitness, athletic skill and competitive spirit.

Navy will soon let women serve on
subs
2/24/2010: The Pentagon has moved to
lift a decades-old policy that prohibits women from serving
aboard Navy submarines, part of a gradual reconsideration of
women's roles in a military fighting two wars whose front lines
can be anywhere. At issue is the end of a policy that kept women
from serving aboard the last type of ship off-limits to them.
The thinking was that the close quarters aboard subs would make
coed service difficult to manage.

Upcoming graduation dates announced
2/28/2010: On behalf of Superintendent
Vice Adm. Jeffrey Fowler, Commandant of Midshipmen Capt. Matt
Klunder formally announced upcoming graduation dates. The Class
of 2012 will graduate Tuesday, May 29, 2012 and the Class of
2013 on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. The most significant change from
past schedules is moving graduation and commissioning ceremonies
