One program fits all
8/7/07:
Although fairly small, Naval
Academy's oceanography department has a direct impact on the Navy and Marine
Corps'
operation forces throughout the fleet. Most traditional oceanography
programs focus on marine science or marine biology, whereas the
Academy's
program focuses on the physical aspects and attributes of
oceanography - waves, tides, currents and water's physical

Navy program defies borders
8/12/07:
Forty-eight international Mids from the Class of 2011 hail from
all over the world, including Central and South America, Eastern
Europe, Africa and the Middle East. They attend the Naval
Academy for four years at the expense of their countries, in
exchange for their promise to fulfill a service commitment in
their home country.
Other service academies have
reached out even more, welcoming cadets from Iraq, Afghanistan,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Chad, Egypt, Rwanda and Georgia. The US
Military Academy in West Point hosts 60 international students,
the Pentagon limit, and the US Air Force Academy in Colorado
Springs has 52 cadets.

muster for early-morning formations.
A former submarine

Mealtimes leave Mids hungry
for more; letter to parents
8/28/07: Midshipmen
have discovered an unexpected downside of the new
superintendent's requirement that everyone eat on campus.
There's not enough food. Capt. Margaret Klein, Commandant of
Midshipmen, blamed the shortage of food on an increase in the
number of meals served, a menu "overhaul" and renovation of King
Hall.
"Starting this Sunday, the
Academy will unveil its new menu, a 'total overhaul,' Klein
said. White bread will be replaced with whole wheat and
Midshipmen won't have potato chips to carry away anymore. Only
fruit."
Full story
Capt. Klein issued a
Letter from the Commandant to parents outlining
recent directives including mandatory study time, week-night
liberty, weekend liberty, extra-curricular activities, summer
training, Midshipmen uniforms, mandatory meals, Midshipmen watch
and football game attendance. |
