Navy faces
challenging schedule
9/4/2009:

128-year history of the program. The Midshipmen have established
a school record by winning at least eight games in six straight
seasons. Head coach Ken Niumatalolo knows if will be difficult
to continue that run in 2009 due to a brutal schedule that
features eight schools that appeared in bowl games last season.

Academy getting massive pay day
9/5/2009: The Associated Press's Ohio
bureau has reported that Navy is being paid $1.45 million to
play at Ohio Stadium today. That figure, reportedly confirmed by
sources in the Ohio State athletic department, would represent
one of the highest single-game payouts in college football
history. Apparently, Army asked out of its original contract to
play at the Horseshoe in the 2009 season opener and Ohio State
athletic director Eugene Smith desperately needed to find a
replacement. Navy was interested but already had an opponent, so
Ohio State not only paid off that school, but also guaranteed
Navy the staggering sum of $1.45 million to make it happen.

Mids just fall a little short of taking down No. 6
Buckeyes, 31-27
9/6/2009: All the elements were in
place for an epic upset of No. 6 Ohio State by Navy. The
Buckeyes weathered the storm with the help of a college football
rarity.
Brian Rolle intercepted a potential tying 2-point conversion in
the closing minutes and returned it for two points the other
way, helping the Buckeyes hold off pesky Navy 31-27 on Saturday.
A crowd of 105,092 - the largest ever to see the Buckeyes open a
season - sat in stunned silence after the 21-point underdog
Midshipmen scored twice in 4 minutes to cut a 29-14 deficit to
two points with 2:33 left.

lucky stars that the midshipmen are back in town for the school

economy goes well beyond just the spending power of enrolled

Navy grads rally to support wounded veteran
9/20/2009:
The vast parking lot surrounding Navy-Marine Corps Memorial
Stadium was a sea of navy blue and gold, as Naval Academy
graduates and midshipmen's families celebrated before, during
and after the Navy-Louisiana Tech game. Feasts from simple paper
bag picnics to elaborate tented, catered affairs were on display
at tailgate parties that dotted the lot like confetti. In the
lower end of the lot, beneath a high-flying, helium-filled
balloon, the Class of '74 dedicated its fiesta-themed party to a
Marine officer from Florida who was grievously wounded during an
ambush in Afghanistan last Oct. 18.
