At 10:30 a.m. members registered and filled
care packages with treats for the Mids and deployed graduates.
At 11 a.m. Co-Presidents Bill and Jane Campion
opened the meeting. Jane
welcomed and thanked everyone for coming to the Milwaukee Yacht Club
followed by the Pledge.
Families gave updates on their Mids and
graduates. A prayer was given
before lunch.
Jane introduced the guest speaker, CH (LTC)
Douglas H. Fleischfresser, 32D IBCT Chaplain.
He has been in the Army for 18 years.
He has been deployed three times: with Operation Noble Eagle
in the U.S.
after 9/11, Operation Enduring Freedom in
Afghanistan, and most recently in Operation
Iraqi Freedom in Iraq.
He spoke about his experiences while deployed, his duties as
chaplain and the counseling provided to service members before,
during, and after deployment.
Members were given insight into what their deployed grad may
experience as to the support system for military personnel.
Business Meeting
Minutes from the October 10, 2009 meeting were
available for review. A motion
was made to accept the minutes, seconded, voted on and carried.
Copies of the treasurer’s report were available
for review. A motion was made to accept the report, seconded, voted
on and carried.
Army vs. Navy Game
There was discussion regarding the December 11, 2010 Army
vs. Navy game in Philadelphia. A block of 25
rooms have been reserved at The Holiday Inn - Historic District.
The current rate is $169 per night (plus taxes and fees),
which is a decrease from the 2009 rate of $185.
Yardtales/Web site
Jan thanked everyone for their submissions and photos for
the spring 2010 issue of
Yardtales. The
summer issue will feature the incoming Class of 2014, NAPS and
foundation members. Jan will
e-mail sample "Family Salutes" to the Class of 2010 parents, which
are optional and free, but she hopes for 100% participation.
Jan will also start a new feature including
member-recommended hotels and/or restaurants in the
Annapolis
area. Members may submit that
information to her. She will
include that information in the Plebe Parent’s Handbook and post it
on the WISNAPA website.
2010 All Academies Military Ball
Mike DeVillers gave an update on the 2010 All Academies
Military Ball. The ball is
scheduled for Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Country Springs
Hotel in Waukesha.
They plan to have music and Casino Night for entertainment.
Fundraising was discussed.
Deb Rouse (Philip ‘13) has volunteered to organize the Color
Guard Ceremony, Sara Bowen (John ‘11) has volunteered to take care
of the registration desk and Roger and Marion Christoph (Henry ‘13)
volunteered to chair the fundraising committee.
Volunteers are needed for table decorations,
invitations and programs, gift and door prizes, and photographer.
Members wishing to volunteer their time and/or talent should
contact Mike and Chris DeVillers.
Check the WISNAPA website for future committee meeting dates.
Jan Haupt donated two handmade baskets which
were raffled at the meeting.
The lucky winners were Janice Scherer and Lance Grady.
Sandy Thurwanger (Jeremiah Derrick ‘11 and Zachary Derrick
‘13) donated handmade scarves and hats which were sold at the
meeting. Proceeds will go
toward fundraising for the All Academies Ball.
Old Business
Bill Campion gave an update as to the audits that
were completed of the treasurer’s reports.
Maggie Coulson conducted an audit of the 2007-08 reports and
the 2008-09 reports. She will
conduct a third audit prior to the June 5,
2010 meeting. (Date revised to October 9,
2010 at the June 5, 2010 meeting)
Congratulations were given to Jan Heinitz
(Rebecca Guild ‘13) for volunteering to take over the duties of
treasurer beginning June 2010.
Craig Walker gave an update on the Class of
2014. To date, there
have been 183 applications with 5 accepted offers, 4 fully-qualified
offers, 1 foundation, and 2 NAPS offers.
New Business
Bill introduced the slate of new WISNAPA
officers for 2010-11. The
officers will be: Steve and
Karen Voigt, co-presidents; Tom and Barb Balistreri, co-vice
presidents; Jan Heinitz, treasurer; and Nancy Briski, secretary.
A motion was made to approve the slate of officers, seconded,
voted on and carried.
Future Meetings
Jane asked for a volunteer to chair the Welcoming Committee
for the Class of 2014. Any
parent wishing to volunteer to chair the committee should contact
Bill & Jane Campion.
Future meetings are scheduled as follows:
Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Country Springs Hotel,
Waukesha; Saturday, October 9, 2010 in the
Milwaukee area; and Saturday, March 5, 2010 in
Oshkosh.
Membership Dues
Membership Dues for the year 2010-11 was discussed.
A motion was made to have the dues remain the same as
2009-10, seconded, voted on and carried.
